I am a first time Mac buyer having recently purchased a Mac Mini. The 2011 Mac Mini has a HDMI out and Thunderbolt (Backward compatible with Mini DisplayPort) out for a display. The Mac Mini does include a HDMI to DVI Adapter but since this is a second computer I plan on using an older LCD monitor. This is when I found the StarTech Mini DisplayPort to VGA Video Adapter.
I did not want to buy an expensive Apple display when I could reuse an LCD or CRT with my new Mac Mini. The Apple Thunderbolt Display costs near $1000 while the StarTech Mini DisplayPort to VGA Video Adapter only costs $32.99 which is a major savings. I’m sure many people have an old monitor lying around in their basement having no use.
The StarTech Mini DisplayPort to VGA Video Adapter simply attaches to the Thunderbold/Mini Display output built into the Mac and then connects to the LCD/CRT monitor by VGA. The adapter require no additional steps so you can get up and running in minutes.
Purchasing the StarTech Mini DisplayPort to VGA is the best decision I made. I save money by not buying an additional monitor and get use out of an old monitor that was just taking up space. I highly recommend this adapter for its ease of use and plug and play capabilities.
